I have a ring stuck on my finger!

Do NOT attempt to force the ring off the finger, as this will cause the finger to swell. If you are worried, please call us at (631)283-1980 from 10am to 5pm and we can walk you through the process.

To remove a stuck ring, follow these steps :

  1. Run the finger under ice cold water, or cool the finger with an ice pack
  2. Lubricate the ring and the finger with soap, hand lotion, or oil
  3. Gently twist the ring from side to side while attempting to slide it off the finger
  4. If the ring still wont budge, repeat steps 1-3

In rare cases, a stuck ring can become dangerous if the ring is allowed to cut off circulation for too long. If it becomes obvious that you will not be able to remove the ring yourself, please call us. We have a rotary diamond tipped device that we can use to gently and precisely cut the ring off of your finger. Nearly all rings can be repaired after this process. If we are closed or unavailable, please visit your nearest hospital or emergency room. Do NOT ignore a stuck ring.

My ring may need to be cut off of my finger!

We can cut a ring here in the store, and most rings can be soldered afterwords to repair the damage. If we are unavailable, please visit your nearest hospital or emergency room, and bring the damaged ring to us after it has been removed.

My jewelry has been lost or stolen!

Please bring your appraisal to us and we can help you with the recovery process. If you do not have an appraisal for your jewelry, come to us and we will try to help you create an accurate and detailed description of your piece. Additionally, any photos you may have would be very useful.

My dog ate my jewelry!

You would be surprised how often we’ve heard this. Your first concern is of course, your poor pet. Please know that some foreign objects like jewelry can be dangerous to an animal if ingested. Watch your pet carefully for signs of trauma, and call your vet at the first sign of unusual behavior. It is always best to consult your vet if your pet swallows a foreign object.
If your pet returns the object to you, as is usually the case, please feel free to bring as many cleaned and recovered pieces of it as you can find, and we will do our best to restore your jewelry. Just think of the story that you can tell your friends after it is beautiful again!

I've tried to repair my jewelry myself, and I can't put it back together!

Some people like to work with their hands. We certainly do! We understand if you may have gotten a bit carried away and we’re here to help! Carefully pack up the piece (or pieces) and bring them to us here at Corwin’s. We’ll help you set it right.
If you’re interested in trying to repair your own jewelry, we recommend working on a clean surface, and if possible, in a very shallow dish with a lip, so that none of the components are lost. Be aware that watches are particularly sensitive as there are interior components that should not be touched by human hands, including the watch battery (oils from your hand can shorten it’s life). If you are curious about watches or jewelry repair, please stop in! We’d love to talk to you about it.

I've lost a single earring, but I still have its mate!

We can recreate the missing earring, or even make a brand new piece of jewelry, from the one earring you still have left. Visit us in store to discuss your options!

My bracelet or necklace broke!

Usually a bracelet or necklace breaks on a “jump ring”, a generally small metal ring which often holds bracelets or necklaces together. Repairs like this are easy and affordable! We can do them while you wait. Please be sure to bring in anything that was attached to the piece, such as pendants, or charms.
If your bracelet or necklace was beaded, or made of pearls, it will need to be restrung. This is a longer process, but luckily for you, we can do it on site. Your jewelry won’t have to be sent out!
Some broken necklaces or bracelets may require soldering, which will take us about a week depending on how many other repairs we currently have to do. Please stop in with your broken jewelry, or send us an e-mail with pictures if you have any questions about your broken jewelry.

Can my repair be done while I wait?

There are several repairs that we do while you wait. Watch battery and band replacement, small soldering jobs, and jewelry cleaning and inspection are among some of the repairs we can do while you wait. A list of repairs that we can do while you wait is provided here.

Which repairs can be done in your store?

Most of the repairs we take in will be done in our store. There are a few exceptions. Some repairs are more unusual, so we don’t carry the equipment or the materials necessary for these specific jobs. In cases such as this we have off-site experts that we send the repair out to. Examples of repairs that we may not do in our store are watch crystal or movement replacement, or complex engraving jobs. For a list of some of the repairs we do off site, please click here.

How long does a repair take when it's done in your store?

Of course it really depends on the repair! Ring sizing can be done in as little as 24 hours, while restringing might take up to 10 days. Being that we are a small family business, our repairs are done in order, as they come in the door, and the time at which they’ll be complete relies heavily on how many repairs we already have. No repair we do in store should take longer than 2 weeks, however. If you’re curious to know how long a repair should take, please call us at (631)283-1980 or send us an e-mail at [email protected]

What are your shipping practices when sending jewelry out to an off-site expert?

Jewelry shipped to our off-site experts is fully insured and sent as 2-day shipping via Fedex. The shipping cost is on us. If you would like faster shipping however, it would not be covered in the cost of the repair, so you may have to pay extra.

Shipping & Ordering from Corwins

Can I purchase your jewelry online?

No, we do not currently have an online shopping cart. We tried this in the past, but we’ve found that our customers prefer to buy our jewelry in person, where they reap the benefits of our advice and expertise, and see their jewelry before they buy it. Customers enjoy that we are able to show them the clarity of their diamonds and gemstones with our jewelry loop, or demonstrate the absorption and reflection of light through their gemstone with our special diamond light, so that they can appreciate the quality of the cut of their gemstone. It may seem less convenient, but we’ve found that selling our jewelry in person is a much more valuable, and trust-inspiring experience.

Can I purchase your jewelry over the phone and have it shipped to me?

You can, but we will need to verify your credit card when we process your order.

Where does Corwin's ship to?

Corwin's can ship to anywhere in the continental US.

Warranties & Guarantees

Is there a warranty on the jewelry I buy?

Guaranteed against manufactured defects. Citizen has a 5 year guarantee and in house state watches have a 1 year guarantee. We can give you a sale appraisal which is suitable for an insurance company.

Can I return the jewelry if I'm not satisfied with it?

At Corwin’s, we don’t have a strict return policy. We do everything we can to make sure our customers are satisfied and fairly treated. Our returns are handled on a case-by-case basis. If you have any uncertainties about your purchase, or if you’re dissatisfied with any purchases you’ve made with us, we would like to hear about it! Please call us, or e-mail us, or stop on in. For details on how to contact us, please visit our contact page here!
